In the manga, Vaan is accosted by Vayne Carudas Solidor and Judge Magister Gabranth and is saved by Balthier. He chases Vaan out into the palace grounds, where amid the battle between the Resistance forces and the Imperials, Balthier throws Vaan onto his hovercraft, piloted by Fran. Vaan escapes and Balthier reluctantly follows him. Balthier demands he hand it over, but before he can retrieve the magicite the Ifrit attacks the palace. In 706 Old Valendian, Balthier and Fran head to the Royal Palace of Rabanastre's treasury where they find Vaan holding the Goddess's Magicite. Partnering with a viera companion named Fran, he flew the skies of Ivalice searching for treasure, gaining notoriety as a sky pirate, and increasing the bounty on his head.īalthier and Fran surprise Vaan in the Palace treasury. Ffamran took on the name "Balthier" as an alias to help cast aside his ties with Archades. After going into hiding he upgraded the ship (so much it no longer resembles the original design) and named it the Strahl. In 700, after his father returned from Giruvegan, Ffamran noticed Cid's sanity fading: he talked to someone who wasn't there, raving on about "bringing the reins of history back to the hands of man." This strained their relationship until Ffamran could not stand the sight of his father.įfamran's falling out with his father, combined with Archadia's political maneuvers, made him decide to leave his post as Judge and flee Archades, stealing a new prototype fighter ship. He showed such promise at a young age he was made an Archadian Judge at only sixteen years old. He wears two crossed, gold-buckled belts with two pouches attached to either side and a collection of brightly colored rings and bracelets on his left hand, and has a set of earrings in both ears. He wears an embroidered golden and olive vest over a high-collared shirt and tight black leather trousers with leather shin pads, and steel, open-backed sandals. Even though the Brigade itself was defeated, its message lived on. Wiegraf joins the Knights Templar and becomes one with the Lucavi demon Belias, before being slain. Just before succumbing, Gragoroth lights the fortress's gunpowder stores destroying the fortress, and nearly killing Delita. The final senior leader of the Brigade, Gragoroth, takes Tietra to Ziekden Fortress and makes his final stand against the approaching Northern Sky army.Īs Ramza and Delita arrive Argath opens fire with his crossbow, killing both Tietra and Gragoroth. In the resulting series of events Milleuda is killed, the Corpse Brigade is defeated, and Wiegraf flees. Ramza, joined by Tietra's brother Delita, attempts a rescue from behind. Zalbaag and Argath mobilize the Order of the Northern Sky for a frontal assault on the fort. He takes his hostage to the Windmill Hut near Ziekden Fortress. Zalbaag, Dycedarg's younger brother, confronts him, and Gragoroth, seeing Alma's friend Tietra Heiral nearby, seizes her instead under a mistaken assumption that she is a noble. When this proves futile, he attempts to kidnap the youngest Beoulve, Alma. Meanwhile, Gragoroth Levigne, another Corpse Brigade leader, sneaks into Eagrose Castle, and attempts to kill Dycedarg Beoulve, the eldest of Ramza's siblings and the leader of House Beoulve. Ramza's group defeats Milleuda, but he allows her to go free, much to Argath's disbelief. Ramza's forces are dispatched to deal with a Corpse Brigade force led by Wiegraf's sister Milleuda Folles that was operating out of the Brigands' Den. When Ramza arrives, Wiegraf releases Elmdore in exchange for his own freedom. Wiegraf learns of Gustav's actions and tracks him down to the Sand Rat Sietch and kills him. The Corpse Brigade demands a ransom, but Ramza's forces launch an effort to locate and rescue Elmdore. One of the Marquis's servants, Argath Thadalfus, escaped and is rescued by Ramza Beoulve's Order of the Northern Sky unit. Against Wiegraf's orders, Gustav Margueriff, one of Wiegraf's senior officers, had Marquis Elmdore of Limberry kidnapped.
